ATLANTA- State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox has announced the names of 51 Georgia high school students selected to become the "voice" of students throughout the state on important education issues. The group includes five students from Northeast Georgia and seven of the students are returning members of the 2003 council.

This year, more than 700 students from across Georgia applied to take part in the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. The mission of the Georgia Department of Education is that "our state will lead the nation in improving student achievement, and the council will play an important role in helping us achieve that goal."

Cox says student input and opinion will be highly valued as she looks for new ways to help all students achieve at their highest potential.

The Northeast Georgia students on the council are: Kyle Thompson of Apalachee High School in Barrow County; Bradley Thomas, Fannin County High School; Christopher Buice, Franklin County High School; Collier Hatchett, Habsersham County High; and, Christopher Cox of West Hall High School.
