Mayor: Council to select amended smoking ordinance next week

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville Mayor George Wangemann said Thursday the city council will review and select an amended smoking ordinance for restaurants city next week with a possible vote on it next month.

Mayor Wangemann emphasized today (Thursday) he doesn't want smoking further regulated in restaurants - he wants it prohibited.

"If you regulate businesses you may prohibit smoking in some places and not in others."

Council members must decide how their smoke free ordinance will read now that two public hearings have indicated support for a restaurant smoking ban.
