GAINESVILLE - Gainesville High and East Hall High School renewed their intra-country basketball rivalry Friday night with a split decision.

The Gainesville girls beat the Vikings 54-38 while the East Hall boys outlasted Gainesville 73-62.

Kata Waller and Tasha Humphrey paced the Red Elephantgs in the girls' game - each scoring eleven points. East Hall's Whitney Pruitt was top scorer in the game, sinking 14 points.

Gainesville used an 8-1 run in the second quarter to pull away 21-12 and never looked back.

Coach Manson Hill says the Red Elephants played a "very good" game, mixing things up, playing a "good game."

In the boys' game, East Hall was led by Jerrerda Wheeler, who socred 13 points. Three players had 11 points each: Brady Langston, Frank Davis, and Walter Hill.

Brent Benson led all scorers with 27 points for the Red Elephants, and went 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. Jeremy Little tossed in 13 points.

East Hall coach Seth Vining says the key to the victory was to "force the tempo" on the game.
