Hall school nurse cuts?

By by Jerry Gunn
GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Schools' Health Services Coordinator briefed the county school board recently on chances that the school nurse program in county schools could be cut back if it loses state funding.

Mamie Coker said that would happen if state tobacco settlement money is rechanneled, "especially by the Georgia Hospital Association to make up for Medicare and Medicaid cuts they are experiencing."

According to Coker, state money pays for 70 percent of the nursing program and the program would have to be totally supported by local funds if it loses state funding.

Parents and children assisted by school nurses called on the School Board to support the 28 nurses who serve Hall County schools.
