More than an inch of rain from Isidore

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - More than an inch of rain fell Wednesday in Gainesville as the outer fringes of Tropical Storm Isidore continued to push northward from the Gulf Coast.

More rain is forecast through Friday with some thunderstorms possible. The potential for flash flooding remains strong because of the already saturated ground and the prospects of more rain. Rainfall Wednesday in Gainesville totled 1.28 inches.

"As with all tropical storms, here in northeast Georgia, the potential is for flooding," State Climaologist David Stooksbury said from his Athens office. "All northeast Georgians need to be prepared in case flooding does occur."

Winds have been gusting to around 25 miles an hour in the Gainesville area but are expected to increase as the center of the storm begins moving our way.

The storm moved ashore in southeast Louisana about 5 a.m. Thursday. The forecast calls for up to 20 inches of rain along the Louisana coast and the Florida panhandle. Top sustained winds were 65 miles and hour as the storm came ashore.
