Sacrificing West Point Lake to save Lanier?

By by Ken Stanford
LAGRANGE - Will West Point Lake be sacrificed to save Lake Lanier?

Some people in west Georgia think it might happen.

Georgia, Florida, and Alabama have being trying for years to come up with an acceptable plan to allocate water in the Chattahoochee River and Lake Lanier.

Now, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, many people in West Georgia believe state officials, who are trying to end the water wars, will sacrifice West Point Lake, located near LaGrange, to save Lake Lanier and bolster the water supplies needed for the metro Atlanta area.

Georgia's chief negotiator in the water wars, Bob Kerr, promises West Point will have adequate water supplies, but will have less water over the next 50 years because of Atlanta's water needs.
