Hall county candidates qualify

By By Jerry Gunn
GAINESVILLE -There were no last minute candidates trying to beat the noon deadline at the Hall County Elections Office Friday.

Linda Martinez was the last to qualify.

Martinez is running for County Commission Post (3) and paid her fee around 11:00 a.m.

Elections Director Anne Phillips said 13 candidates qualified by party this week including nine Republicans and four Democrats.

Two candidates qualified in the non-partisan race to fill the unexpired term of the late
Frances Meadows in Commission District Post (4).

The voter registration deadline for the August 20th primary is July 22nd.

A large number of Hall County voters will go to a new location to cast ballots this year, according to Phillips.

Voters may look for voter registration cards in the mail with important information.

"The card that you get will tell you where you go to vote," said Phillips.

"It will also give you all those districts for your new districts."

Of the 64 thousand people registered to vote 53 thousand are active and the remainder are not.

"These are the people who have not voted for the last three years or they changed their address without giving us a change of address,"
Phillips said.

Phillips added that those voters need to file their new address with the Elections office before August 20th.
