Gainesville firm beats a trend

GAINESVILLE - Employees of Warren Featherbone and its affiliate Alexis PlaySafe had plenty to celebrate Wednesday.

The company is there because it's officials say it's committed to keeping American jobs in America.

It has bucked the textile industry trend of closing up and going overseas.

Chief Executive Officer Charles Whalen Junior predicts more U.S. manufacturing activity, not less. "We believe strongly that U.S. jobs should stay here", said Whalen.

"We're working with very creative products that enable to fill niches in the world market place."

Some of those products are from Alexis PlaySafe, like the floatable "Pool Pal" for infants designed by Patti Gilmer, founder of Pool Pal and Director of PlaySafe.

Whalen said he has reason to celebrate Georgia Manufacturing Week this week, with the best third quarter the company has ever had.

Whelan plans to be among the 1,200 people at the Manufacturing Week banquet with Governor Roy Barnes presiding.
