Wright: New park plan calls for more land

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - The new Hall County Parks & Leisure Services Countywide Master Plan calls for another 300 acres of parkland in the county by 2009.

"It's calling for a park in the northwest part of Hall County and the northeast part of Hall County," Cary Wright, who is retiring this summer, said during an appearance on this weekend's Northeast Georgia This Week on WDUN News Talk 550.

Wright noted that construction is expected to begin later this year on another new park in Hall County.

"We've already got a new park that will be starting up, hopefully, in September in the East Hall area between East Hall Middle School and East Hall High School."

Wright, who earlier this month announced plans to retire this summer, says the plan does not put a price tag on the improvements it says are needed, but Wright admits suitable parkland is becoming scarce and more expensive because of the growth of the county.

He says the number of parks in the county has tripled, from three to fifteen, in the 25 years he's been with Hall County Parks & Leisure Services.
