Barnes non-committal on $ for rowing venue

ATLANTA - Governor Roy Barnes is not making any promises when it comes to state funding to help renovate the Olympic rowing venue on Lake Lanier.

"We would like...to give some assistance in that regard," Barnes said. "It all comes down to how this budget progresses."

Local organizers of the USA Canoe/Kayak Nationals are planning an upgrade of the venue in time for the 2003 event.

The project would cost about five million dollars. They are also seeking funding from the Gainesville City Council and Hall County Commission.

The governor commented during a recent appearance on the Martha Zoller Show on WDUN AM 550.
