GAINESVILLE - In the wake of recent disputes involving the assignment of students to schools in Hall County, the Hall County Board of Education (BOE) has revised its student assignment policy.
The new policy redefines a student's residence. According to the policy "a student's residence...is defined as being the primary home where his or her parents live or the primary home of any other person who has been awarded legal custody or control of such student."
It goes on to say "parents must provide a sworn statement as part of the enrollment process establishing their residence and attesting that the residence is the primary home where they and the student live."
A year ago, a parent took the school board to court - and won - after her daughter was ordered to change schools.
The family had homes in two school districts.
