Barr lake meeting Monday

CUMMING - A spokeswoman for the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce says Georgia Congressman Bob Barr will host a public meeting Monday on issues affecting Lake Lanier.

Barr announced plans for such a meeting a few weeks ago.

With Barr at the meeting will be Col. Robert Keyser of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office in Mobile, Alabama, the Corps office that oversees Lanier and a number of other federal reservoirs in the Southeast.

Col. Keyser is the Corps official directly responsible for setting management policy for Lanier.

"It is critical that local citizens with a significant stake in management of (Lanier) have a direct voice with the officials responsible for setting policy," Barr said at the time. "Bringing (him) here to listen to our concerns prior to the beginning of the recreation season, will allow us to make an impact on key concerns, such as water levels, property restrictions, and environmental quality."

Those plans have been finalized and the meeting, described as a town hall meeting, will be Monday night at 7:00 at the offices of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce.
