Buford advanced to the Class AA girls softball tournament next week. The Lady Wolves swept through the tournament beating Blessed Trinity, Rockmart and Dade County Thursday and Saturday in the North Sectionals.
With a two-run lead over Franklin County and Holli Lewis on the mound, it appeared the No. 9-ranked Flowery Branch girls softball team was poised to become the first team in school history to make a state tournament appearance.
For the second time this year the Class AA No. 1-ranked Buford Wolves were shutout in the first quarter by a Region 8-AA opponent. And for the second time, the game was over by halftime.
North Hall was not a kind host to Gilmer County Friday night. The Trojans capitalized on five Gilmer turnovers and cruised to a 42-0 region 7-AAA win at The Brickyard.
