Posting the fastest lap of Friday’s time trials late in the final round of knockout qualifying at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Carl Edwards knocked Kevin Harvick off the pole for Sunday’s Sylvania 300, the second race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Gordon set to break Rudd’s consecutive starts record
Twenty-one years ago, at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Ricky Rudd taught Jeff Gordon a lesson. It was Oct. 9, 1994, in what was then the Mello Yello 500, and Rudd was incensed at a “slide job” Gordon had used to pass Rudd’s No. 10 Tide Ford late in the race.
