We told you it was the biggest week of the season, and boy was it.
In Region 7-5A, No. 6 Gainesville had several chances against top-ranked Milton but lost 42-24 at City Park. The loss drops Big Red one game behind Milton and Roswell in the standings.
In Region 8-3A, Jefferson, Cherokee Bluff, and Oconee County all were victorious to continue to separate themselves from the rest of the region, with all three slated to play each other over the next three weeks. The Dragons were 49-7 winners over East Hall; Oconee beat West Hall, 50-0; and Cherokee Bluff ran away from Monroe Area in the second half, 52-24.
In Region 6-3A, North Hall set themselves up alone at the top of the region with a thrilling 27-23 win over GAC. Lumpkin County kept pace with a 64-14 win over Johnson, while Dawson County stunned White County, 14-0. Chestatee also put themselves in playoff conversation with a big 37-14 win over Pickens.
In other action, Flowery Branch took down Madison County, Habersham Central knocked off Alcovy, and Rabun County routed Oglethorpe County.
Buford and East Forsyth got things started on Thursday, winning a pair of region contests to stay in the title chase in their respective regions. The Wolves routed rival Dacula, 51-14, in Region 8-6A, while the Broncos ran past Walnut Grove, 34-14, in Region 8-4A.
