In a recent development, Northeast Georgia Health System has paused its acquisition of Longstreet Clinic following confirmation that an unspecified number of Longstreet physicians are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.
The nature of the investigation has not been disclosed.
NGHS spokesman Sean Couch stated in an email to AccessWDUN, “We have been made aware of certain investigations by the U.S. Department of Justice. As a result, NGHS has paused the work to integrate Longstreet Clinic pending the results of the federal investigation. At this time, it’s unclear how long the investigation will take. We value our relationship with Longstreet Clinic and its physicians, and we are certainly disappointed that we need to pause our intended integration. We look forward to the investigations reaching satisfactory resolution. Until then, NGHS will continue to focus on providing excellent care for our community.”
It was reported back in April of this year that Longstreet Clinic would officially join NGHS by the end of 2025.
This comes after AccessWDUN reported in January that the two would enter a formal alignment agreement.
AccessWDUN has reached out to Longstreet Clinic for comment, but has not received an official statement at the time of this article’s publication and will update this story as that information becomes available.
