BUFORD, Ga. — Buford opened its 2025 season with an impressive 2-1 win over Parkview on Friday at Gerald McQuaig Field.
The Wolves (1-0) got the game-winner in the fifth when senior Cannon Goldin drove in senior Luke Hopper with a sacrifice fly. Hopper led off the inning getting hit by a pitch, moved to on a bunt, and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Freshman Dexter McCleon Jr closed out the game for Buford throwing two scoreless innings to earn the save. Junior Kanon Nelson got the win, pitching two scoreless innings, striking out five and not allowing any hits or walks. Senior Braden Burton got the opening game start and allowed one run on three hits and a walk.
Parkview struck first when centerfielder Malachi Washington led off the game with a no-doubt home run to left field. The Wolves answered back in the bottom of th first when Goldin led off with a double and later scored on a sac fly from freshman shortstop Leo Garcia.
Buford is off until playing host to Marist next Friday.
