BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — Banks County held on for a 4-2 win over Union County on Friday.

The win clinched the Region 8-2A title for the Leopards (19-8, 11-3 Region 8-2A) on the final day of the regular season. It was part of a doubleheader but Banks County needed just one win to clinch the title.

Banks County led 4-0 early with single runs each in the first and second and then got a solo home run from Gaven Sears and a RBI double from Warren Leftwich.

That was more than enough for Judd Spear, who went five innings, scattering five hits and two walks and allowing just one run. He fanned seven. Andrew Humpries gave up one unearned run over the final two innings for the save.

Banks County will take a No. 1 seed into next week’s state playoffs.

The Raiders won their fifth straight game to close out their regular season on a strong note on Friday at home.

North Forsyth (21-9, 15-3 Region 8-2A) used a six-run second inning to take control and then cruised to the victory. The Raiders led 8-0 after the third, getting a solo home run from Ozzie Patterson and Jordan Cox had a hit and 3 RBI. Brady Holbrook and Jake Prince each had two hits for North Forsyth.

Brayden Weems, Trey Windham, and Holbrook combined on a five-hitter and fanned 10 as a group on the mound.

The Raiders next will be the No. 2 seed from Region 8-6A in the upcoming state playoffs.
