By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Jason Deal has been named the new Chief Judge of the Northeastern Judicial Circuit, following the retirement of Judge Kathlene Gosselin.

The judicial circuit announced the move in a release Monday. Deal has served as a Superior Court Judge since 2005 and is the presiding judge over the Hall County Drug Court and the Dawson County Treatment Court.

The circuit's Superior Court judges appointed Deal to the role.

"I'm grateful for the confidence of my fellow judges and appreciate the opportunity to continue the strong legacy of leadership provided by Judge Gosselin, Judge Andrew Fuller and Judge Richard Story," Deal said. "We're a strong circuit, with Superior Court judges who act with thoughtfulness and unity, and we've never been busier."

Gosselin had served in the role since July of 2018.
