By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A Canon man was arrested Tuesday after another man was found shot on a road in Hart County.

Captain Chris Carroll with the Hart County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to the scene on Sunset Circle southwest of Hartwell at around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a man who had been shot.

"We found a male victim laying in the road on Sunset Circle who did have a gunshot wound," Carroll said. "During the initial interview with the subject, he had identified another male who lived just down the road on Sunset Road, which was around the corner, who had shot him."

Carroll said deputies then went to the address on Sunset Road and made contact with the suspect, Patrick Elon Wheeler, age 26 of Canon. He was arrested and is facing a list of charges including aggravated assault and reckless conduct.

"An investigation was done from that point where a firearm was collected from the residence," Carroll said. "It sounds like, through the investigation that we've done so far, that there was a domestic situation going on at the residence on Sunset Road, which ended up causing the shooting."

The victim was transported to AnMed Medical Center in Anderson, South Carolina for treatment. His status was not released.
