GAINESVILLE — It was another close finish in the annual Greater Hall County Fellowship of Christian Athletes East-West All-Star Classic on a rainy Monday night at Lynn Cottrell Stadium at The Brickyard.

Team West held off Team East to win, 10-7, at the newest home of the FCA All-Star game at North Hall High School.

Team West coach and North Hall coach Dave Bishop said he's always enjoyed the game.

"Obviously being with my guys is fun," Bishop said. "But being able to work with coaches that you coach against on Friday nights and being able to coach with kids that you've got to coach against, it's a unique opportunity. I think it's one that I've always relished since we started doing this about 7 years ago. It was a blast."

Players from Flowery Branch, Johnson, East Hall, Cherokee Bluff, Banks County, Jefferson, East Jackson, White County, Lanier Christian, Habersham County represented Team East; and players from West Hall, Chestatee, Gainesville, North Hall, Jackson County, Commerce, Lumpkin County, Riverside Military Academy, Lakeview Academy, Stephens County played for Team West.

The weather may have been a factor in the opening quarter with both squads fumbling the football. But Team West was the only one to cash in a mistake. Gainesville's Dez Brown scored on a 4-yard run to push Team West ahead by two scores, 10-0. Sean Whitley nailed a 24-yard field goal early in the game.

Team East's only score of the game happened with time expiring in the second quarter when Jefferson's Colby Clark hit East Jackson's Caleb Adair with a left-handed 8-yard pass in the back left corner of the end zone.
