Girls basketball: Towns beats Dawson for 3rd in Battle of the States

HIAWASSEE -- Towns County hit 14 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold on for a 68-57 win over Dawson County in the girls third place game of the Battle of the States Tournament.

Towns County jumped on the Lady Tigers quickly opening up a 23-15 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Indians then increased their lead to 42-29 by halftime.

Dawson County came out strong in the third quarter using a 16-6 run to pull within 48-45 heading into the fourth quarter. Towns County was able to maintain its lead and then won the game at the free throw line as dawson County was forced to foul to stop the clock.

Sheyenne Seabolt had 16 points and 8 rebounds before fouling out for Dawson County. Carly Gilreath added 13 points, eight rebounds, and dished out four assists for the Lady Tigers. Allie Costley had eight points and eight rebounds.

Dawson County dropped to 8-6 with the loss, with three of the losses coming against the Lady Indians (10-4) who are ranked seventh in Class A.
