Hot weather to continue all week

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - The unseasonably hot weather that's moved into Georgia is expected to continue for the next few days, and the National Weather Service says it may get even warmer.

The weather service predicts high temperatures ranging from the 90s to about 100 for most of the state with some chance of showers or thundershowers Monday, with not much change on Tuesday. Some areas in the mountains should be a few degrees cooler.

On Sunday, Atlanta's high was 93 degrees, but it reached 98 in Macon and Savannah, 97 in Columbus and 101 in Augusta.

Highs across north Georgia are running about 10 degrees higher than normal. The high in Gainesville Saturday was 91; on Sunday, it was 93. A year ago on those dates temperatures reached 82 and 83, respectively. Still the highs recorded Saturday and Sunday were several degrees cooler than the record for the dates: 97 in 1931 for Saturday and 97 in 1958 for Sunday.

Little relief is forecast through the weekend.
