The newest series on AccessWDUN, our 2020 Region RunDown webcast, will look at each region involving northeast Georgia area teams as we, hopefully, begin preparations for the upcoming 2020-21 sports season.
We are starting with football, looking at each region beginning with Class 7A. We will work our way down to Class A Private and Public and every classification in between.
This week we will look at Region 8-3A, which features East Jackson.
Gone is defending region champion Jefferson (Region 8-4A), rival Jackson County (Region 8-5A), and Morgan County (Region 4-3A). But 2019 Class 4A state runner-up Oconee County and Stephens County both move in from Region 8-4A to make up the now six-team region along with holdovers Franklin County, Hart County, and Monroe Area.
While Oconee County is coming one of its most successful seasons ever, the Warriors lost more 80 percent of their offense to graduation. Hart County made a quaterfinal run in 2019 but Monroe Area returns perhaps the most experienced group in the region.
East Jackson is coming off a 3-7 season in 2019 and lost leading rusher Nino Brown to graduation. But second-year coach Caeron Pettus feels they may be ready to turn the corner and challenge for a playoff spot with a host of returning starters.
