Nancy Roper, age 72, of Cumming Ga, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 after a long illness. She was a strong woman who battled and beat breast cancer and was a stroke survivor who fought hard for many years.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, September 19, 2025 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Reverend Stan Lee and Reverend David Chumley will officiate.

Nancy was the beloved wife of Cecil Roper for 33 years. She is also survived by her children, David Chumley (Melissa), Joey Chumley (Camille), Michelle Hughes (Clay), and Stephanie Duran (Wade). She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy.

Nancy grew up in a large family with 12 siblings and had numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She had a special love for the Georgia Bulldogs and enjoyed football games, pool parties on the 4th of July, and cookouts surrounded by her family.

The family is especially grateful to those who visited and supported Nancy during her time in the nursing facility, as well as to the caregivers and hospice staff who provided compassion and care in her final months.

Cathy Ann Perry, 67, of Severn, MD peacefully went to be with the lord on the early morning of September 15, 2025.

Cathy will lovingly be remembered by her family and friends as a loving and caring mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Cathy is survived by her sister and family Cindy, Darrel, Holly, and Ryan, brothers and family Jeff, Linda, Dee, and Kenneth, Rick, Millie and Kathryn, Gary and Pam, daughter Lindsey, and son Trevor and Sarah.

Cathy was born in Altoona, PA on March 15, 1958, the daughter of the late Ceeber E. and Mary June (Corle) Ake. She lived in Blue Knob Pennsylvania until the family moved to Merritt Island, FL in 1963. Cathy grew up in Merritt Island, graduating from Merritt Island High School. Throughout school Cathy was a part of band programs where she excelled winning multiple honors playing the clarinet.

Cathy’s career in education spanned decades and four states where she continually progressed her career where she fought tirelessly to advocate for teachers because she believed in education and helping people to achieve the best version of themselves. Cathy’s longest tenure was with Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) of 37 years where she retired and moved to Maryland to work at MSEA where she achieved the position of Assistant Executive Director for Organized Advocacy. Cathy finally retired from her career in 2023.

Throughout her life, Cathy enjoyed gardening, walking, cooking, going on cruises, playing cards, putting puzzles together, playing Bingo, coloring, working on word search puzzles, and watching her Pittsburgh Steelers football and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games. Cathy loved helping others and was much loved by family and friends but the love of her life has always been her many cats. In more recent years Cathy took in three rescue cats, Ziggy who she rescued herself, Toby who was rescued in Miami through her brother Rick, and Pebbles who was rescued in Georgia through her brother Jeff.

Hilda Chester, 84, of Dawsonville passed away Monday, September 15, 2025.

Born January 20, 1941 to the late Hubert and Madge Talley, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.  Hilda was employed by Standard Telephone Company, now Windstream, for 29 years. An accomplished pianist, she played in church for many years and for the Dedications gospel singing group.  She enjoyed canning, cooking for and spending time with her  family, and she had a love for animals.  A member of Goshen Baptist Church, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bill Chester; grandson, Jake Fausett; sister, Clara Talley; and her son in law, Randy Fausett.

Surviving ae her daughter, Roxanne Fausett, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, Stuart and Jessica Chester, Buford; grandchildren, Zachery Fausett, Ryan Chester, David Chester, Laura and Zack Parrish, Sarah Moore, Abbey Moore; great granddaughter, Lyla Parrish; and a number of other relatives.

Chris Lewis, 64, of Maysville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Monday, September 15.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Langford Lewis, his sons Ryan Lewis (Spring) of Commerce, Zach Lewis (Casey) Lewis of Sylvania, and Ben Lewis of Brookhaven.

His pride and joy were his grandchildren Nate, 8, Rylee, 6, and Harlow, 19 months old, all of Sylvania. Chris also leaves behind three special nieces, Cailyn Cain, Kinsey Langford, Brittany Lewis, and Sydnee Baker. Chris spent a lot of time with them and taught them how to live life out loud. He also leaves behind some special church grandchildren including Cade Vanderburg, Alyssa Prickett, Audrey Simpson, Rayvn Saxon and Riley Saxon.

He is also survived by several siblings including Scott Lewis, Robyn Davidson, Beth Lewis, Charitye Boswell, Jessica Lewis, Jeff King, Kim Rylee, and Scott Rylee.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris King of Baldwin, father, Robert Lewis, brother, Tim Lewis, and grandparents Sandy and Lurlene King of Baldwin and Sharp and Stella Lewis of Maysville.

Chris was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He took several people under his wing and taught them the joy of hunting and fishing and a love for the harvest.

During his career he worked in electrical maintenance for several manufacturing companies before retiring in 2021.

While Chris had many accomplishments, his greatest one was that he is a child of God. Second Corinthians 5:8 tells us that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Chris last attended church at New Life Fellowship.

A memorial service will be held 2 pm Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025 at Ivie Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Whiting officiating. The family will receive friends 12 PM until the funeral hour Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Marjorie Justice Anderson Murdock, age 94 of Toccoa passed away peacefully Monday, September 15, 2025.

One of eleven children, Marjorie was born February 1, 1931 in Rabun County, Georgia to the late Fred and Della Justice. She retired from Sangamo Electric with 30 years of dedicated service. She was an active gardener with an exceptional green thumb. She was happiest when caring for others and put family before herself until her last day.

She was the most loving and sacrificial mother one could be. She adored her family and always worked very hard to support and care for them as well as her large circle of friends. She touched the lives of all who met her.

In addition to her parents, Fred and Della Justice, she was preceded in death by her son, Geary Anderson.

Mr. Wilson Future “Future” Wright, age 75, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, in Gainesville, Georgia. Born on February 5, 1950, in Jackson, Georgia.

He was baptized at an early age in the Baptist faith with a strong spiritual foundation that remained with him throughout his life.

Born in Jackson, Ga, Wilson known as by all as “Future” was a graduate of Henderson High School. The family eventually moved from Jackson to Gainesville, Ga. This is where he began building a life grounded in hard work and family.

Mr. Wright started his career working first for General Motors. He then ended up working many wonderful years of his life

at the Avery Label company where his diligence and pride in his work were evident to all who knew him. Known affectionately as “Future,” he was recognized for his straightforward nature and strong voice—a presence that left a lasting impression both professionally and personally.

Outside of work, Future found joy in simple pleasures. He especially enjoyed gathering with friends for lively game of Spades, BBQ on the grill or just sitting around drinking a cold beer with a friend. He could fill any room with his contagious laughter, bright smile, warmth, roaring energy and

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and joy to those who recall the sound of his laughter echoing through their lives. His booming voice was matched only by the strength of his spirit. Those who knew him will remember a man who spoke his mind and lived boldly. Known for his warm spirit and ability to strike up conversation with anyone, Future never met a stranger.

Landon Parker Ramey, age 16, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

Born in Gainesville on June 1, 2009, Landon was the beloved son of Adam and Jade Williams Ramey. He was a dedicated Junior at Habersham Central High School, where he proudly played on the Men’s Varsity Golf Team. A true outdoorsman, Landon was passionate about deer hunting and eagerly anticipated the upcoming season. His love for nature and adventure was matched only by his infectious sense of humor and his kind, encouraging spirit. Landon’s heart was full of love for his family, and he was the light of his parents’ lives. He cherished his travels with his family, from the beach to the mountains, always creating memories. Landon was preceded in death by his grandmother, Annette Hurt Ramey, whose memory he held dear.

Vickie Ann Mull Pugh, age 65, of Alto, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Mrs. Pugh was born on July 17, 1960 in Gastonia, North Carolina to the late Leola Mae Mull and Randall Doc Mull. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Pugh; sons, Robert Eugene Cabe and Randall Lee Cabe; brother, Wendell Mull; sister, Alice Williamson.

Lisa Anne Burton, 67 of Lula passed away Saturday September 13, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Lisa Anne Burton, daughter of Porter B Scott and Lois D. (Jackson) Scott was born in Jellico, Tennessee on September 5th, 1958. From Tennessee, she moved out west, spending the next 9 years in Northern California before her family eventually settled in Sugar Hill, Georgia. Lisa attended North Gwinnett High School and during that time, she met the love of her life, Philip Burton of Norcross, Georgia.  The two dated while Lisa completed nursing school, obtaining her nursing degree from Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in Atlanta. She and Philip married in 1979 and spent over 46 years building a life and raising two amazing children: Cliff Burton and Andrea (Burton) Olsommer.  She poured her heart and soul into her family. She was always the first in line to volunteer to help at their school and cheer them on in all their endeavors. Later in life, she welcomed daughter-in-law Ellie, and son-in-law, Steven to the family along with two grandchildren, Liam and Maggie, that affectionately called her “Nana.”

In addition to her love for family, Lisa was a fabulous cook, creative crafter, and lover of nature and gardening. She often admired and studied the deer and birds who visited her backyard, giving them a name, and making sure they never went hungry. Lisa’s life was marked by years of service in healthcare and volunteering with organizations such as My Sisters Place, Habersham Library and Habersham’s Meals on Wheels to name a few. She lived to see the light in those she loved and took advantage of every opportunity she had to make others feel special. While her illness made these last few years tough, she was never bitter or angry about her circumstances, rather she made the most out of the time she was given.

Lisa is survived by her husband, Philip; her children, Cliff (Ellie) Burton and Andrea (Steven) Olsommer; her grandchildren, Liam and Maggie; and dear family and friends who will miss her deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Porter and Lois Scott.

Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and quiet strength. She taught those around her the value of family, the joy of creating with your hands, and the peace that can be found in the natural world.

Though she may be gone from our sight, Lisa will remain forever in our hearts.

James Martin Evans, age 77, of Suwanee, GA passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. He is survived by friend, Karen Balsley of Suwanee; daughters, Nicole Douglas of Albany, OH and Lisa M. Mrs. Cynthia Louise (Everman) Holmes, age 60, of Gainesville, Georgia, “Fought the Good Fight” and passed away peacefully, Monday, September 15, 2025.

Cynthia was born in Bud Lake, New Jersey on December 24, 1964. She was the daughter of the late Elmer Everman and Joan Marie (Pornovets) Everman. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Brian Everman.

Frank Thomas Peterson, 38, went to be with the Lord on September 14, 2025.  Born in Denville, NJ, Frank grew up in Wharton and Jefferson NJ.   After graduating from Jefferson High School, Frank enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving our country for six years.   Upon being medically retired from the Marine Corps, Frank moved to Sugar Hill, GA.

Frank is survived by his parents Thomas and Joan (McSherry) Peterson, Sugar Hill, GA and his sister Leanne Nees, Newton, NJ.  He leaves many aunts, uncles and cousins behind as well.

Edwin “Ron” Gurta, 89, of Gainesville, Georgia, beloved husband of Barbara (Wilson) Gurta, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on February 27, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, Ron was the son of Anthony and Lottie (Dombrowski) Gurta.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Barbara (Wilson) Gurta. He is also survived by his three children: Kenneth Gurta (wife Crystal) of Hoschton, GA; Lisa Martin (husband Jeff) of Lawrenceville, GA; and Michael Gurta (wife Gaylin) of Buford, GA. He also was very proud of his five grandchildren – Jennifer Russell, Madison Holsombeck (husband Gage), Kelsey Oxley, Amilyn Gurta, and Noah Gurta and two great-grandchildren. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie; his brother, Daniel; and his sisters, Barbara and Dolores.

Ron spent 28 years as a paint supervisor with the Ford Motor Company. He was an active member of the Greenville Power Squadron and enjoyed many years of boating on Lake Hartwell. After retiring, he founded the Lions Club in Navarre, Florida, and volunteered at Gulf Breeze Baptist Hospital as well as with the Holly-by-the-Sea Boys Fishing Club. In his later years, Ron boated along the Florida panhandle before turning to RV travel and becoming a member of the Pensacola RV Club.

He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and the love he shared with his family and all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on September 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 600 S Enota Dr NE, Gainesville, GA 30501. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate his life.

Mr. French was born on October 22, 1943, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to the late Warner French and Rosalie Rice French.  He was a retired mail carrier and a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Mr. David Earl Deibler, age 80 of Suttles Road, Martin passed away Friday, September 12, 2025 at the Stephens County Hospital.

A son of the late Gordon Wesley Deibler and Loretta Marie Haupt Deibler, he was born April 5, 1945 in Binghamton, New York, having moved to Waco, Texas in 1986 where he was employed with Baylor Bookstore.  He later moved to Suwanee, Georgia where he was employed with Georgia State College as their Textbook Manager.  Upon his retirement from Georgia State College, he moved to Stephens County, Georgia in 2019.  He was a member of the Toccoa First Methodist Church.  In his younger years, he loved to fish, hunt and hike.  He was a hard worker and loved his family dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Deibler, two brothers, Gordon Wesley Deibler and Melvin Edward Deibler and by a sister, Laura Bacon.

Survivors include two sons, Bryon Deibler of Martin, Georgia and David Deibler of Waco, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and James Stine of Vero Beach, Florida; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Memorial service Saturday, September 20, 2025, 2 p.m. at Toccoa First Methodist Church with The Reverend April Briant officiating.

Elmer Prince, Jr., age 79, passed away September 8th, 2025.  Born on September 13th, 1946, he lived a life marked by kindness, humor, and a love of the outdoors.

He is survived by his three children: Buddy & wife Ladda Prince, Paula Prince, and Danny & wife Laurel Prince, and 8 grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love and compassion.

Varina Gail Zoellner Galbreath, age 77 passed away on September 14, 2025. Gail was born February 8, 1948 to the late Earl Zoellner and late Clara Louise Ritchie Zoellner.

Gail was a devoted member of Mountain City Methodist Church. She held her family in roots in Rabun County very close to her heart. She liked to spend her time either in the garden or with her animals. She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes as well as setting up Christmas villages and other holiday decorations. Gail donated her time to Fayette Youth Protection Home and Stephen Ministry. She also worked as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines.

In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her husband, Michael John Galbreath; and brother, Stanley Earl Zoellner.

Gail is survived by her children, James Galbreath, Bradley Michael Galbreath (Carol), and Traci Lynn Howell (Brian); grandchildren, Jet James Earl Galbreath, Jake Galbreath, Michael Galbreath, Jennifer Lenning (Adam), Austin Howell, Garrett Howell (Katie), and Madison Howell; and great grandchild, Clara Lenning.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Edgar Coit “Eddy” Hollifield, of Clayton, Georgia, who left this world on September 13, 2025, at the age of 71.

Born on July 24, 1954, to Coit and Dorothy Hollifield, Eddy was a lifelong resident of the mountains of Rabun County, where he built a life rooted in family, faith, and the land he loved. Eddy was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 53 years, Reneta “Skeet” Hollifield. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, companionship, and shared adventures—from horse trading across the country to savoring ice cream on cruise vacations.

He is lovingly remembered by his children, Holly Houck (Bobby) and Eddy Hollifield (Cassy), both of Clayton; his cherished grandchildren, Makinzy Long (Johnathan), Maleigha McCraw, Will McCraw (Aislinn), Madison Houck, Emory Hollifield (Savannah), Austin Hollifield, and Wyatt Hollifield; and his adored great-grandchildren, Mila Kate Long, Maggie Long, Maliviah Long, Maverick Long, Daxton Barrett, Delyla McCaw, Dallas McCaw, Silas Mason, and Bristol Hollifield.

He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Parker (Tommy) of Clayton, along with his niece and nephew, Maria Shirley (Josh) and Boone Parker (Lottie). He was also very close with Oss Deal and Big Deal.

A skilled horse trader with a true gift, Eddy dedicated his life to raising and training horses, ensuring that the rich traditions of the past lived on in the present. Known for turning even the wildest horses into gentle giants, he spent countless hours alongside his beloved horse Frank, sharing rides and stories on wagon trips through the community—always leaving a piece of  heritage and joy behind.

Eddy found deep purpose in his faith and was an active member of Battle Branch Baptist Church, where he continued to grow spiritually and walk closely with Jesus. We take comfort in knowing he now stands in His presence.

On September 11, 2025, Jean Elizabeth Bailey Simpson, passed peacefully in her home at the age of 101 years and 324 days.

Born in Hubbard, Ohio on October 22, 1923 to George Russell Bailey and Minnie Madge “Dolly” Bailey, Jean was the youngest of four sisters who preceded her in death – Virginia, Cy, and Ruth. She graduated from Hubbard High School, where she played clarinet, golf, and tennis. Soon after graduating, she met her husband, Robert “Bob” D. Simpson, who enlisted in the army in 1943. Jean worked as a book keeper for Powell Pressed Steel in Youngstown, Ohio during the war. On August 4, 1945, Bob married Jean while on leave. When the war ended, the newlyweds moved to Princeton, New Jersey, where Bob was a student at Westminster Choir College. While Bob finished school, Jean worked as a telephone operator at the phone company in Princeton. Bob would continue on as a professor at the Choir College, and Princeton would be their home for over 30 years. Jean was a vibrant member of the community at the Choir College, and her hospitality was well known with the students, sharing Christmas cookies with carolers, making countless casseroles, and hosting regular dinner parties in their little home. She raised her three children, who she is survived by – Mark (Jane) Simpson, Karen (Whit) Blakeley, and Anne (Jim) Seifert. Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life, and the family were active members at Princeton First United Methodist Church, where Jean was a vital center of a group of lifelong friends who shared meals, raised children, celebrated Christmases, exchanged White Elephant gifts, and went on camping trips together.

In 1979, Bob and Jean left Princeton for Atlanta, Georgia, where Bob joined the staff at Shallowford Presbyterian Church as the minister of music. While at Shallowford, Jean was an active member of the Dottie Haavie Circle, an enthusiastic supporter of the music ministry, and a faithful volunteer preparing meals for Habitat for Humanity builds. She worked in accounts payable at Emory University Hospital for ten years, retiring in 1992. During their years in Tucker, Jean welcomed nine grandchildren, who regularly gathered for celebrations and holidays around her table. In 2014, they left their home in Tucker at the age of 90 to be closer to family north of Atlanta.

Jean was known for her mischievous streak and her quick wit. She pulled many a prank on friends, sneaking out of wedding receptions to short sheet beds or rearrange furniture. Her humor was sharp and her laugh was infectious until the very end. Wherever Jean went in her life, she built a community around dinner tables and shared meals. She had an easy way of being herself – charming, caring, witty – that always drew people in.

In the years since Bob’s passing, Jean became a beloved member of the community at The Phoenix of Braselton, or, as she affectionately called it, “the home.” She lived independently right until the end, attending weekly ‘girls nights’ with her daughters, hosting her grandchildren and her nine great-grandchildren, and reading voraciously. Many people embraced, celebrated, and supported her, including her dog walkers Emily and Callie, the incredible staff of Phoenix, and the residents of Phoenix who supported her and her family in her final days.

A Memorial Service for Jean Simpson will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 2:00pm at Shallowford Presbyterian Church, 2375 Shallowford Rd,. Atlanta, GA 30345.

Ann Marie Seabolt, age 93, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2025.

Ann was born on March 11, 1932, in Altstatt, Germany, to the late Theodore Scherner and the late Maria Lux Scherner. She grew up during the difficult years of World War II, often recalling vivid memories of air raids, running for safety when the sirens would sound, and surviving the bombing of her family’s home. At just 16, her brother was called to the front lines near France, leaving lasting impressions on Ann’s early years.

Amid such hardship, Ann found love. During the post-war years, she met a young American soldier, Kenneth R. Seabolt, at the “Holy Ghost” restaurant, where they spent an evening dancing that marked the beginning of a lifetime together. The two were married in Germany in 1956, in both a civil ceremony and a church wedding, fulfilling her mother’s wish that their marriage be blessed by God. In 1957, Ann bravely boarded a plane for the very first time to come to the United States, while Kenneth made the journey by ship. She was welcomed by her father-in-law, Ollie, with only a smile and a nod, as she knew no English at the time.

Together, Ann and Kenneth built a family and a life filled with hard work, faith, and devotion. She worked at Pine Tree, Southern Switches, the sewing plant in Dawsonville, and later as a cook at the Lumpkin County Jail, where she faithfully served for 16 years. She and Kenneth shared many wonderful years before his passing, and Ann often spoke of their life together with gratitude and joy.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth R. Seabolt; her daughter, Melissa Suzanne Seabolt; and her siblings Max Scherner, Hubert Scherner, Hildegard Schafer, and Maria Wolf.

She is survived by her children Cindy (Daryl) Truelove, Mary Lynn Woody, and Alan (Renee) Seabolt; sister Roswitha Schaffler; grandchildren Erin Woody, Zachary Woody, Cierra Rose, Brandon Seabolt, Brooke Seabolt, Blake Garrett, Kelli York, Kristi York, and Sean Guard; great-grandchildren Kalin Woody, Aubrey Rose, and Logan Rose; and special friend Debbie Dockery. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives also survive.

Ann’s life was a story of resilience, courage, and love—a journey from the war-torn streets of Germany to the hills of North Georgia. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the memories she created with them.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Terry Head and the Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Interment to follow at the cemetery of Siloam Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00PM until the service hour. Rev. Brion K. Williams, age 68 of Clarkesville, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 27, 1957, Brion was the son of the late William C. and Freda Scott Williams.  Brion was retired as senior ranger from the Georgia Forestry Commission where he served for 28 years.  He was currently a member and for the last 26 years has served as Pastor at Oakey Mountain Baptist Church.  A man of many talents, Brion was a HAM Radio operator and enjoyed fishing, knife making and woodworking.  Above all else, Brion was a Servant. He loved his family and he loved his church family.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Linda Gail Williams of Clarkesville, daughter and son in law Kelley and Bryan Whitmire of Gainesville, daughter Katie Williams of Clarkesville, sister Tamara Webb of Ringold, niece Kayla Frost (Brantley) of Winder, as well as numerous extended family, his beloved Oakey Mountain Family and his loyal companion “Oscar”.

Nancy Moon Gilbert, 71, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born January 30, 1954, Nancy spent most of her life in Dawson County.  She was a graduate of Dawson County High School and member of New Bethel Baptist Church.  Nancy worked as a supervisor in the poultry industry, spending most of her career at Fieldale until her retirement.  She loved being outside, gardening and working hard alongside her husband.  For over 20 years they had a booth at the farmer’s market in Dahlonega.  Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ann Moon and siblings, Johnny Paul Moon and Harvey Moon.

Surviving are her husband, Wayne Gilbert of Dawsonville; children, David Gilbert (Melissa) of Dahlonega, Kristie Gilbert of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Dalton Gilbert, Liliann Gilbert; siblings, Frank Moon, Dixie Farrell, Jimmy Moon, David Moon; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was an engineer consultant for PEDCO Company, and also owner of M L Technical Services.  He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, GA. Mr. Lunday loved photography, sports, the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Tech. He was very patriotic, and he was a polio survivor from Warm Springs.

Annette Davidson Boykin, age 95, of Buford, GA, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Boykin.  Mrs. Boykin is survived by her children, Holle Knox of Buford, GA, Chris Boykin of Dacula, GA, Bill (Joanne) Boykin, Jr. of Huntsville, GA; Carol Boykin of Suwanee, GA; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Boykin was born May 23, 1930 in Lindale, GA.  She retired after 25 years of service as a Secretary at New Prospect United Methodist Church in Buford, GA.  Mrs. Boykin had also worked for Buford Middle School in the Cafeteria.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September12, 2025, at the New Prospect United Methodist Church in the Church Building Sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, Annette had requested donations in her memory be made to New Prospect UMC, 2018 Buford Dam Road, Buford, GA 30518.

Mr. Dennis Edward Pierce, age 88 of Gainesville, Georgia passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025.

Dennis was born on July 29, 1937 in Hall County, Georgia to the late Edd Thomas Pierce and Martha Irene Porter Pierce. He was married to the late Louise Walden Pierce and before her passing, they spent 57 years together raising three children in the area where he had grown up.

Dennis leaned on his faith. He gave his testimony not only in words but also in song. He loved singing the old gospel hymns and could often be found at local churches, Bose machine in tow, joyfully sharing his voice and his heart wherever he was invited. He also had a love for classic cars and proudly showed them off in parades and gatherings, always happy to share his enthusiasm with others.

Dennis owned and operated many small businesses over the ears. His last venture, a pine straw business serving Gainesville and the North Georgia area, became well-known and trusted part of the community.

Dennis was most at peace outdoors. He had the heart of a pioneer, as close to the original American frontiersmen as you could ever meet. Whether he was deer hunting in the quiet woods, or simply breathing in the fresh mountain air, the wilderness was never just a past time. It was part of who he was that, same rugged, self-reliant spirit that carried over into every corner of his life.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise, his parents and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his daughter and sons-in-law, Pamela and Tony Fuller of Gillsville and Margaret and Stanley Cain of Murrayville; his son and daughter-in-law Eddie and Pam Pierce of Cleveland; grandchildren Hannah Fuller, Joshua Cain, Jonah Cain, Nolan Pierce, Brandy Fuller, Jason Fuller, Robbie Swain and great grandchildren Kristen, Isabelle and Gianna. Also his brother Jesse Pierce and sister Polly Chatham, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 in the chapel of Memorial Park Riverside with Rev. Joey Yeary and Mr. Stanley Cain officiating. Interment will follow at Springway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dennis will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in every hymn he sang, every story he told, and every smile he left behind. Those who knew him can take comfort in knowing that while his voice is silent here, it is now lifted high in Heaven’s choir.

Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Charles Steven Cain, age 66, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025. Mr. Cain was born in Winder, Georgia, a son to the late Charles Junior Cain and the late Beatrice Shannon Cain. Mr. Cain was a Correctional Officer with the Jackson County Correctional Institute and a member of the Winder First Baptist Church. His love of  playing softball and following Georgia Football, where among his favorited things to do. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cain was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Crane Cain, maternal grandparents, William and Mattie Shannon and his paternal grandparents, Zeb and Lonia Cain.

Survivors include his sister, Gail Banks and her husband Larry of Jefferson; brother, George Petrisko and his wife Jackie of Braselton; step-son, Russell Jordan of Panama City Beach, FL; niece, Kelli Stewart and her husband Chris of Pendergrass; nephew, Kyle Banks and his wife Amber of Jefferson; niece, Tiffany Petrisko Lamb  and her husband Marcus of Canton, GA; niece, Brittany Petrisko of Braselton; great niece, Karlie Banks and great nephews, Kaden and Hudson Banks; aunts, Vivian Waddell of Winder, Carol Voyles of Commerce and uncle, Gene Cain of Sevierville, TN; numerous cousins also survive.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Dexter Sims and Mr. Geoge Petrisko officiating. The burial will follow in the White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery with Kyle Banks, George Petrisko, Chris Stewart Kaden Banks, Tim Jack Robinson, Misty Stinchcomb and Brittany Pretrisko honored as pallbearers.

Mr. Larry Ray Edwards, age 81, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025. He was born to the late Clarence Edwards and Lula May Bell Blalock on June 18, 1944 in Gainesville, Georgia.

A private graveside service will be held for the family at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Edwards is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Janice Edwards.

He is survived by his daughter; Angela Bostic (Steven); and grandchildren, Ja’nice Bostic and Sheldon Harper.

Richard “Pops” Wayne Sadler, born on February 12, 1941, in Berea Ohio, gracefully departed this world on Friday, September 12, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering faith that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Richard was a dedicated member of Cornelia Christian Church, where he was actively involved in ministry throughout his adult life. He had a profound impact on countless lives, leading many to Christ and sharing his joyful spirit with everyone around him. His outgoing personality, characterized by an ability to never meet a stranger, and his penchant for bright colors, crazy hats, and socks made him a familiar and beloved presence in the community.

In his personal time, Richard found joy in fixing things and working on cars, pursuits that showcased his hands-on approach to life. His role as The Grinch at church highlighted his playful nature and ability to spread laughter among family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Sadler; his son, Richard Sadler II; son & daughter-in-law, Brian and Rhonda Sadler; daughters& sons-in-laws, Sindy and Reggie Moon, Tammy and Ken Michal, and Kathy and Danny Guest; along with 13 cherished grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Richard was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews, who will remember his warmth and kindness.

He is preceded in death by his father Harold Sadler, mother Dorothy Spence Shafchuk, his late wife of over 40 years Hughlene Sadler, and sister Beverly Wild. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Cornelia Christian Church with Minister Greg Miller officiating. In celebration of his vibrant spirit, family and friends are invited to wear their boldest and brightest colors.

The Life and Times of John Nathan “Nate” Youngbeck

John Nathan “Nate” Youngbeck of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on August 30, 2025 in North Florida.  Mr. Youngbeck was born on July 27, 1980 in Atlanta. He grew up with his family in Roswell, Georgia where he graduated from Fellowship Christian Academy and Roswell High School.  He attended Fork Union Military Academy and Liberty University in Virginia.

Mr. Youngbeck used his engaging personality to become involved in media communications first in Telluride, Colorado and then the Florida Panhandle. Later, after a venture in heirloom tomato farming with family friend and Treehouse Farms owner Ted Foret, he joined forces with his brother Carey in owning and operating a restoration business in the Atlanta area that also aided in post-hurricane disaster recovery in Houston, Texas and Panama City, Florida.

An active outdoorsman, Mr. Youngbeck loved to explore new areas in camping and hiking with family and friends.  His favorites were the forests of North Georgia and the windswept white sand dunes of Cape San Blas, Florida.

Nate loved tradition, travel and time with family, circling the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state, home of his aunt Barb and cousins Jess and Liz, and exploring the national parks of the Southwest with best friend Abba and the Waller family.  He especially enjoyed time with his grandparents, celebrating Thanksgivings with his maternal grandparents in Decatur, Alabama and Christmastime in the snow at the home of his paternal grandparents in Mayville, Wisconsin.  As a young man, Nate also made trips to Europe with his parents, admiring the yeoman warders and swords at The Tower of London, the castles on the Rhine in Germany and the Coliseum in Rome.

Nate will be especially missed by a circle of friends he has kept close to him his entire life:  Abba, Chris; Brandon; Dennis and Erik.  As his friends say, Nate could light up a room and put a smile on everyone’s face.  He was a loyal friend who was known as a protector and defender.

Nate is survived by his parents, mother Polli (Patti) and father John and Step -Mom Ann; sister Wren (Joe) Kendall and Kendall nieces Lilly, Lucy and Lainey, all of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida and beloved brother Carey of Kennesaw, Georgia; Aunt and Uncle Steve and Jan Brown of Sugar Hill, Georgia and Nate’s cousins Katie, Taylor, Caroline, Joshua, Benjamin and Mark; Uncle Jeff and Aunt Victoria Teague and cousins Hannah and Joshua of Buford, GA and aunt Barbara (Larry) Mills of Healdsburg, California and cousins

Thomas M Seaman of Grayson, Georgia passed away August 26, 2025.  Tom was born March 7,1951 in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan and was raised on Drummond Island.  After graduation from Detour High School in 1969, Tom left the Island for the city, but his heart never did.

Tom met Kathy Beehler in 1977 at the Silver Palace in Essexville, MI.  They were married on November 30, 1979.  They were blessed with two daughters, Tricia Trapp of Jefferson, GA and Carolyn (Matthew) Elliott of Marietta, GA and four grandchildren, Brady and Hadley Trapp, and Lainey and Berry Elliott.

In 1984, Michigan’s economic conditions spurred a move to the Atlanta, GA area.  Tom worked in the commercial construction industry.  He spent 21 years as a superintendent for Pro Building Systems in Atlanta, semi-retiring in 2017.  Retirement allowed summers to be spent on Drummond Island, hanging out with family, reconnecting with old friends and making lots of new ones.  Drummond Island was his happy place.

Tom loved golf.  He especially looked forward to Tuesday morning scrambles and the afternoon men’s league with his brother, Eldon, as his playing partner at the Drummond Island Township Course. In Georgia, Tom rarely turned down an opportunity to play. He enjoyed it so much, he even played with his wife.   His love of golf was passed to his daughters, who will tip a Miller Lite in his honor on hole #1 when they return to Drummond.

Tom had the ability to fix many things and a willingness to help family, friends, and neighbors however he could.  Tricia and Cari knew they could always count on Dad for solutions to their problems.   He loved people and it showed in his sparkling blue eyes and jovial smile.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon Holly and Melissa Irish Seaman.  In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother Eldon (Vivienne) Seaman of Drummond Island, and sisters Cheryl Maury of Titusville, FL, and Carol Miller of Sault Sainte Marie, MI, as well as multitude of in-laws, nieces and nephews.  There are many others who also called him Uncle Tom.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Frankie Mae Cleveland Mattox was born on April 19, 1951, to the late Frank Bronner and the late Mary Emma Bronner in Gainesville, Georgia. She lived her life boldly and unapologetically.

Frankie was a proud member of the last graduating class of E.E. Butler High School in 1969. While in school, she played basketball, ran track, was a pom-pom girl, participated in the Student Library Association of Georgia, and was part of the first African American Debutantes in Hall County. She later attended Lanier Technical College. Frankie worked at and retired from Wrigley’s. She was also a member of the Gainesville Hall County Black History Society and a faithful member of Bethel AME Church.

She was kind, loving, and welcoming to all; she never met a stranger. She loved to eat, and as her closest friends would say, she always “rewrote the menu” when ordering her food. She was most proud of her children, Daniel and Traci. She made countless efforts to support her loved ones, such as learning sign language to communicate with her grandson and attending the significant events of her children and grandchildren. There was never a doubt that she loved and cherished her family and friends.

On September 9, 2025, at 5:39 a.m., Frankie (age 74) peacefully took her last earthly breath.

She was preceded in death by her youngest sister, Glenda Summerour (age 40); her mother, Mary Emma Bronner (age 76); and her father, Frank Bronner.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her life partner, Ronald Pierce; her children, Daniel (Lisa) Cleveland, Dr. Traci (Christopher) Sparrow, and her bonus son, Tariq Pierce; her grandchildren, Khalyle Cleveland, Taden Cleveland, Madison Sparrow, and Ashlyn Cleveland; and her bonus grandchildren, Taniya, Jiriq, Ihsan, Kahmih, Sommer, Ian, Ahmad, and Harlym Pierce.

She is also survived by her siblings, Dorothy (Paul) Edmond and Teresa Bronner; her half-siblings, Michael Bronner, Brenda (Derrick) Terry, Pat (Melvin) Brown, and Vernal; her cousin Sharon (Blake) Samuels; her closest friends, Martha Mays, Berlinda Lipscomb, and Beverly Hamin; her nephews, Derek and Craig Summerour; and her extended family, Carmen, Mario, Leslie, and Carla, along with a host of cousins, extended relatives, and dear friends who loved her deeply.

Frankie was a doer. She never ceased to encourage her children to achieve their goals. She never allowed her emotions, or any societal limitations or restrictions, to stop her from doing what she wanted. If she wanted it, she made it happen, whether it was ordering food to suit her taste, coloring her hair while on vacation, or thriving as an African American woman during segregation. She enjoyed life to the fullest, living it with a smile and laughter.

She will be missed and forever loved!
