A Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy was found dead and a teenager received multiple gunshot wounds following a domestic incident in Forsyth County Saturday night.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office (FCSO), they received a call at around 8 p.m. Saturday from a citizen at the Villages at Shakerag subdivision in southern Forsyth County just west of Suwanee telling them her neighbor showed up at her front door bleeding.
The juvenile explained that his mother and her boyfriend were arguing, and the boyfriend was shooting a gun.
The neighbor applied pressure to the wound until emergency personnel arrived. The teenager was taken to a local hospital for multiple gunshot wounds and is listed in stable condition.
Deputies arrived and entered the home after getting no response. They located a woman, later identified as an off-duty Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy, dead in the upstairs bedroom.
The suspect fled the scene, and he has now been identified as 43-year-old Eric Sumner of Suwanee.
Detectives tracked him traveling south on Interstate 75, and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office found him. A brief chase followed, and Sumner was taken into custody.
He's going to be transported back to Forsyth County to face charges of homicide and two counts of aggravated assault with attempt to murder. Additional charges are pending.
The victim's identity is being withheld until the next-of-kin are notified.
The case is active and ongoing.
“The loss of life to violence is senseless, but the loss of a law enforcement officer should hit home to every one of us in a community. I would like to personally thank the Monroe County Georgia Sheriff’s Office for their quick response in capturing this dangerous suspect,” Sheriff Ron Freeman said.
