Flowery Branch City Council votes to approve expansion of Water Reclamation Facility

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

The Flowery Branch City Council voted Thursday evening to approve the final details of an expansion for the city’s Water Reclamation Facility.

The agreement will be with Archer Western Construction for $43,311,101.

A portion of the funds to complete the project were previously secured by the city from GEFA. The remaining funding needed will be provided through revenue bonds sold in coordination with The Gainesville and Hall County Development Authority.

City Councilman Joe Anglin said the approved agreement is lower than an initial proposal to the council. The bonds were scheduled to sell Friday.

“That's down from roughly what we thought might be $51 million,” Anglin explained. “We made some adjustments, put it back out for bid and cut about $8 million off of the initial expansion that we were planning on having. And it's just to add more capacity here in Flowery Branch, as we do have the development, and then the existing customers, just to have a much, much nicer system. A more efficient system for the citizens.”

A presentation at Thursday’s City Council meeting projected the expansion to be completed in two years.
