Update published 1:10 p.m. Friday:
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the suspect who was shot and killed by police in southern Gwinnett County Thursday evening as a Lula man.
A release from the agency Friday said Steven Scott, age 39, was shot and killed by authorities during a shootout that investigators say started when Scott fired at officers who were attempting to stop him on Jimmy Carter Boulevard near Norcross.
Authorities were looking to serve an arrest warrant on Scott, who was wanted by the Oakwood Police Department in connection with an alleged April 7 armed robbery at the Valero gas station on McEver Road at Stephens Road.
Oakwood Police Department officials confirmed Friday afternoon that Scott was wanted for taking an unknown amount of cash from the station. No injuries were reported during that incident.
The GBI is now investigating the Thursday shooting that left Scott dead. Details on that shooting provided by Gwinnett police officials can be found below.

A suspect in a robbery case who also had outstanding warrants out of Hall County was killed in a shoot-out Thursday evening with Gwinnett County Police.
According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, the incident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. Thursday when an officer tried to stop a red SUV in a Waffle House parking lot on Jimmy Carter Boulevard in unincorporated Norcross. That establishment was near the intersection with Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.
The agency said the driver had four outstanding warrants in Hall County. That suspect was also believed to be a suspect in a robbery in unincorporated Gwinnett County.
The driver initially pulled over but then proceeded to accelerate forward while shooting at the pursuing officer. At least one round hit the window of the nearby Waffle House.
A detective in a nearby unmarked police car then activated his blue lights as the suspect began approaching. The suspect fired at least one round at the unmarked police car. The agency said that round entered the trunk, passed through the back seat and became lodged in the driver's seat where the officer was seated.
"The officer in the marked patrol SUV initiated a pursuit and followed the suspect's vehicle onto Jimmy Carter Blvd., where the suspect made a left turn," the release said. "Due to the suspect's high rate of speed, the red SUV began to spin on two wheels as the driver lost control."
The suspect's red SUV spun around as a result, facing directly toward the patrol SUV.
"The suspect immediately began firing at the officer through his windshield and passenger side window just prior to the officer’s patrol SUV colliding with the suspect’s vehicle," the agency said. "The officer immediately exited his patrol SUV and returned fire, striking the suspect at least once."
The officers immediately provided aid to the suspect, but that person died on scene. The agency did not release the name or any identifying information for that suspect.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been requested to investigate the incident.
No officers, motorists or passersby were injured during the incident.
