Polls closed in Georgia at 7 p.m. Tuesday for the Presidential Preference Primary, where voters made their choice for the Democratic and Republican nominees who will make their way to the November ballot.
President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump won each party's pick, as neither faced any major challengers.
Additionally, in the City of Oakwood, city residents cast their vote Tuesday in a special election to fill a currently vacant Post 4 City Council seat. That follows the passing of late City Councilman Dwight Wood in September 2023.
Candidates Volley Collins and Rhonda Wood were both vying for that City Council seat. Wood won the election with about 58.5% of the vote.
Polls remained open until 7 p.m. Tuesday Those still in line at 7 p.m. were still allowed to vote.
Just over 20 people had voted at Emmanuel Community Church in Gillsville at about 11 a.m., while 13 people had voted at Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville. Meanwhile, in Flowery Branch, about 60 people had voted at Flowery Branch High School as of noon.
In Oakwood, Flat Creek Baptist Church had nearly 150 voters at around 2 p.m. Close to 94 people voted at United Methodist Church in Oakwood as of 2:30 p.m.
The next major election in Georgia will be the General Primary/Nonpartisan Election, which will take place on May 21.
