SAVANNAH, Ga. — East Hall took the more than two-hour lightning delay in stride with a shocking 3-0 road win over Benedictine Military on Tuesday in the Class 4A state quarterfinals.
The Vikings opened the game firing with multiple early opportunities and finally broke through in the 24th minute with a Jonathan Torres goal off a Miguel Dominguez assist. Eden Castrejon, two minutes later, off a Pedro Delgado assist push the Vikings' lead to 2-0.
In the second half, Ranger Lara-Chavez booted the final goal in the 67th minute after David Loza was taken down in the box and awarded a PK.
East Hall, a No. 4 seed, has now taken down two No. 1 seeds, Druid Hills (2-1) and Benedictine, to reach the semifinals for the second straight year.
The Vikings will travel to Northwest Whitfield, which upset No. 1 seed North Oconee, 4-1, on Tuesday.
