Gainesville Police Department investigates murder-suicide

By B.J. Williams

Investigators with the Gainesville Police Department are investigating an apparent murder-suicide at a residence on Vine Street.

Lt. Kevin Holbrook confirmed the agency responded to a domestic issue call just before 7 p.m. Wednesday.

"Upon arrival, officers did find a number of individuals in the residence, they all appear to be occupants of that residence," said Lt. Kevin Holbrook with Gainesville Police. "Unfortunately they did find a female deceased inside the residence."

Holbrook said further searching found a male, assumed to be the perpetrator, also deceased on the property. At this point, the identities of those involved have not been made public, but Holbrook was able to confirm the female and male victims were in some sort of relationship with each other. He said at this point, they aren't exactly sure how the others at the home, who made the 911 call, are all related to the deceased or how involved in the case they are.

Investigators were on the scene late into the night trying to determine the circumstances of how and why the murder-suicide happened.

"Domestics are sometimes one of the most dangerous incidents that we in law enforcement approach, and this turned out to be one those very tragic situations," Holbrook said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family."

Holbrook encouraged anyone who was dealing with violence at home to reach out to community resources, such as the Gateway Domestic Violence Center.
