COMMERCE — Commerce used a 28-point second quarter to blow open a close game en route to a 35-0 win over Greene County Friday night in both teams Region 8-a Public opener at Tiger Stadium.

Commerce (5-1, 1-0 Region 8-A Public) led just 7-0 after the first quarter on a 16-yard touchdown run from Sammy Brown capped the Tigers’ opening possession. But it stayed that way until the first play of the second quarter.

Michael Sherman scored on a 10-yard run on the first play of the second quarter. The Commerce special teams then got into the act two minutes later.

Ethan Epps blocked a Greene County punt and Jack Fagan picked it up and ran it in from just 2-yards out for a 21-0 lead.

Elijah Burns pushed Commerce’s lead to 28-0 with a 9-yard TD run and Trey Huff scrambled 17 yards for a TD with just over a minute left in the half for a 35-0 advantage.

Both teams employed mainly reserves in the second half.

Commerce managed just 125 yards rushing an 11 yards passing but the defense held Greene County to less than 75 yards for the game.

Brown finished with 78 yards rushing to lead Commerce.

The Tigers will play host to Towns County next week.
