Charges are pending in a wreck that seriously injured a long-time North Georgia educator in Baldwin Tuesday morning.
The two-car wreck occurred on Ga. 365 at Ga. 384 (Duncan Bridge Road) at 9:49 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, according to Sgt. Casey Coffee of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.
A Dodge Caravan driven by 24-year-old Tyler Beezley was traveling north on Ga. 365 in the left lane and failed to stop for a red traffic signal, according to Coffee.
The Caravan struck the left side of a Buick Park Avenue driven by Sylvia Palmer, 84, of Alto. Palmer was attempting to cross over Ga. 365 on Ga. 384 (Duncan Bridge Road), according to Coffee. Both vehicles came to final rest on the southbound side of Ga. 365 in the gore area facing northwest.
Palmer was transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, according to Coffee.
Beezley was transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, Coffee said. Morgan Bethany Reed, 21, of Alto, was a front-seat passenger in Beezley’s van and was transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
Palmer, who formerly led Habersham Christian Learning Center, spent 38 years teaching the Bible and biblical concepts to high school and college students. She formerly served on the Habersham County Board of Education.
Charges in the wreck are pending, Coffee said.
