Progress in 'water war'

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - There are reports of some progress in talks aimed at ending the decades-old tri-state water war.

A new court filing seeking yet another extension of the deadline to resolve the matter cites "progress being made in the mediation."

The request was granted and the new deadline is April 30th.

At the center of the dispute: water in Lake Lanier and elsewhere in the Chattahoochee River basin.

Earlier this month, a federal judge in Minnesota, who has experience in such matters, was named to mediate the dispute and the lawsuits that have resulted from the water war were bundled into one and passed along to him.
