COMMERCE, Ga. – In a defensive battle Friday night, Elbert County got the upper hand on Commerce, winning the Region 8-A Division I battle, 16-6.

With the score tied 0-0 early into the second quarter, Commerce threw a pick-six to get the Blue Devils on the board. Elbert added a field goal with 3:20 to go in the first half to push the score to 10-0 at intermission.

After the Blue Devils scored less than a minute into the third quarter, Commerce finally got on the board with five seconds to go in the third, scoring on a Jace Lyle 90-yard sprint. The Tigers had opportunities to score in the fourth quarter, but penalties and turnovers doomed the Tigers to their worst start in program history.

Commerce will be at Rabun County next week.
