ATHENS, Ga. – Commerce lost in a scorefest Friday night at Athens Academy, 49-28.

The Spartans jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and 28-7 late into the second quarter before Tate Kirk found Ty Sorrells for a 16-yard touchdown to take a 28-14 deficit into the halftime break.

The Tigers cut the lead down to seven midway through the third quarter as Kirk again found Sorrells for a 49-yard passing score, but the Spartans answered back to push the lead out to 49-21 before Layden Brown scored the final touchdown of the night on a 59-yard sprint.

The Tigers are 0-5 for the first time since 1945. They will look for their first win of the season next week at Elbert County.
