1. Hall County 911 center now accepts text messages
The Hall County 911 Center is now one of 16 centers in the state that can now receive text messages. Although residents are still urged to use a voice call, Text-to-911 will help those who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech-disabled. It will also be useful in emergency situations such as abduction, home invasion, domestic situation and in the instance where a cell call cannot be delivered but a text can. READ MORE.
2. Voters can test state’s new voting machines
Voters in Hall County will have the chance to test run the state’s new voting machines this Tuesday. At 11 a.m. and at 1 p.m, the county’s election staff, along with officials from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, will be at the Hall County Government Center to demonstrate the machines that will first be used in the March 24 presidential preference primary and E-SPLOST election. 3. FBI offers reward for info on suspect who killed retired deputy
The FBI is offering a $15,000 reward for information regarding the suspect who shot and killed a retired Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office deputy this week. Felix Cosme, 63, was shot during an armed robbery while working at O'Reilly Auto Parts on Hamilton Mill Road. The Gwinnett County Police Department described the suspect as a black male, and tipsters who have information can call the FBI at (770) 216-3000. READ MORE.
4. Forsyth County is the state’s richest county
Based on median household income, 247wallst.com found that Forsyth County is the richest county in Georgia with an all-time high of over $63,000 in 2018. Low unemployment rate and high skill levels of the labor force are important factors in contributing to higher incomes within the counties on the list. READ MORE.
5. Corps of Engineers seeking gate attendants
As the summer season approaches, two campgrounds on Lake Lanier may not open on time because of a shortage of gate attendants. The Corps of Engineers has begun taking bids to fill the positions at Old Federal Campground and Van Pugh South. The bidding period is open until January 27. READ MORE.
