Nancy White Westbrooks, 96

Nancy White Westbrooks, age 96, of Buford, GA passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Nancy Carolyn White was born on February 7, 1929, in Chattooga County, Georgia to Robert A. White and Fannie Bell White, the youngest of eight siblings. The family lived on a farm and worked hard but according to Nancy, they enjoyed playing in the creek when they had time. She attended school in Holland, Georgia and went on to finish high school in Lyerly, Georgia. During high school, Nancy enjoyed playing softball and basketball and was the center for her team. She continued her education at Overby’s School of Stenography in Chattanooga, Tennessee and later at business school in Atlanta, Georgia.
Nancy met her future husband while working in Atlanta. On November 11, 1950 she married John Louis Westbrook of Cordele, Georgia who was working in Atlanta as the news editor for The DeKalb New Era and as a news announcer for the local radio station, WGLS, after finishing his degree in Journalism at the University of Georgia.
A few years later, they were blessed with the arrival of two daughters, Elaine Dianne and Carol Denise. As the years passed by, the girls married giving Louis and Nancy their six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Nancy and Louis went into business for themselves in 1958 at The Atlanta Merchandise Mart as manufacturers’ representatives for lamps, lighting and gifts. After almost 30 years, they retired in 1986, after building one of the largest wholesale showrooms of its kind in the South where Nancy worked as the showroom manager.
In their retirement years, the couple traveled to over forty countries and RV’ed across most of the United States. In 1993, they built their dream house on Lake Lanier where Nancy enjoyed spending time fishing, gardening and boating with her “sweetheart”. Louis and Nancy were blessed with 71 years of marriage. In 2024, Nancy moved into assisted living after Louis had passed away two years earlier, and she enjoyed making many new friends, cheering on her favorite sports teams, the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs, playing her piano and joining friends on many occasions for rounds of Bingo and Corn Hole.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Elaine Griffen and husband Mark, and daughter Carol Garner and husband Jeff, as well as by her six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren scattered across the country.
