Bishop S. Archie Luke, 85

Bishop S. Archie Luke, 85, of Dawsonville died Saturday May 17, 2008 at his residence following a period of declining health.

Born in Lowndes County, GA, Bishop Luke had lived in Dawson County for the past 4 years having moved here from Simpsonville, SC. He had served in the ministry for 70 years and was an ordained Bishop with the Church of God in Cleveland, TN. Bishop Luke served as the State Youth Director of North Carolina and served on many boards within the church including State Council, Missions, Youth, Evangelism and Licensing. He served as a National Evangelist and pastured churches in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Ohio and Texas. He was a church planter for 32 churches and organized 9 churches. Bishop Luke was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jimmie Ruth Luke.

Surviving are his daughters and sons in law, Judy Morgan, Virginia Beach, VA, Janet and Robert Combs, Columbus, Ohio, Jimmie and Mike Owens, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, Bishop Sam and Donna Luke, Monroe, Michigan; sisters, Maggie Dixon, Concord, NC, Virginia Campbell, Statesville, NC, Mary Ellen Wiggins, Rock Hill, SC; brothers, E. E. Luke, Rocky Mt., NC, Grady Luke, Atlanta, James Luke, Atlanta, 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday May 18, 2008 at 5 o'clock at the New Life Church of God. Rev. Mike Owens, Rev. Bob Daugherty and Dr. L. R. martin will officiate. Interment in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
