James Farmer, 80

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Sugar Hill Baptist Church for James Farmer, age 80, of J. Farmer Road, Gainesville. The Rev. Mike Mangum, Rev. David Ash, Rev. Kevin Shockley will officiate.

Internment will be held in the church cemetary. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m.to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 4 at Ward's Funeral Home. He died Sunday, July 2, 2006 at his residence following a long battle with cancer.

Mr. Farmer was born April 7, 1926 to the late Kate and J.N. Farmer, Sr. in Hall County. He was a member of Sugar Hill Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for 50 years. He was a great teacher of God's word. Mr. Farmer taught young people and men's Sunday school for many years. He had a love for gospel singing and sang in a quartet with family and friends. He served in the US army during WWII. Mr. Farmer retired from City Plumbing and Electric after 30 years of service. He loved his family and church family and was loved by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Wayne Farmer, daughter Judy Farmer and grandson Chad Mangum.

Survivors include his wife Mary McNeal Farmer of Gainesville, son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Debbie Farmer of Gainesville, daughter and son-in-law: Joan and Mike Mangum of Gainesville, brother: J.N. Farmer, Jr. of Gainesville and sister: Mildred Perkins of Gainesville, grandchildren: Alan and Shanda Farmer and Brooke Mangum both of Gainesville.
