Minnie Lee Chumley Wigington, 95, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday October 2, 2018 at Grandview Health Care Center following a period of declining health.
Born December 25, 1922 to the late John Henry and Martha Chumley, she had been a resident of Dawsonville for most of her life. Minnie was a member of Amicalola Baptist Church and for many years was known as “The Avon Lady” in the area. She was a well known and very talented seamstress who specialized in alterations and helped many local families. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she left this life with spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Wigington, grand-daughter, Valerie B. Burgess and a number of siblings.
Surviving are her daughter, Lois Ledbetter, Jasper; sons and daughters in law, Dewey Lee and Barbara Wigington, Jasper, Charles S. “Billy” and Martha Wigington, Marble Hill, John and Barbara Wigington, Dawsonville; brother, John Carson Chumbley, Stockbridge; sister, Edna “Eddie” Goswick, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Edwin and Earlene Wigington, Jasper, Lisa and Ric Seymour, Gainesville, Julie and Greg Edwards, Marble Hill; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Jonathan, Daniel, Vallon, Robert; special family friend, John Carver, Marietta; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday October 5, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Larry Waddell will officiate. Interment will follow in Amicalola Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday October 4 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.
