Sherman Head, age 71, passed away at his home Friday afternoon, after a successful morning of bass fishing on Lake Lanier.
He was employed at Pine Tree Plant in Dahlonega for 42 years, where he worked in various departments before retiring. He enjoyed spending much of his time fly fishing local streams for native trout and lakes with his son and brothers and his cherished dog, Cracker, his fishing buddy. He also enjoyed traveling to scenic places, seeing and marveling at the wonders of creation, casting a fly whenever possible.
Sherman was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and was completely devoted to his family.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Rufus and Era Head. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Beni Gail Head; son, Charles Head; sister-in-law, Marcia Howard Hawk (Steve); sister, Vi Ballentine; brothers, Jewell Head, Ernest Head and Tinker Head (Connie) all of Dahlonega. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Dahlonega Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. in the chapel. Lyman Caldwell to officiate.
