Mrs. Lucille “Bigga” Hitchcock Stroberg, age 97, widow of Emory Gustavus Stroberg, died in Gainesville, Georgia on the 18th of April 2015.
Funeral services will be held at Hart’s Mortuary at Cupola Chapel in Macon, GA at 11:00 am on Friday, April 24, 2015. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Macon, GA.
Mrs. Stroberg was born in Macon, GA on February 14, 1918 and lived for over 95 years in Macon prior to relocating to Gainesville, GA. She was proceeded in death by her husband, her parents, Roland Mortimer Hitchcock and Eliza Garrison Hitchcock, and her sister, June Hitchcock Cantrell.
Mrs. Stroberg graduated from the University of Georgia and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She was a member of the Nathaniel Macon Chapter DAR, Daughters of American Colonist, a charter member of the Cherokee Morning Garden Club, and a former member of Idle Hour Country Club. Mrs. Stoberg was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Macon, where she taught Sunday School in the primary department for over 50 years, and was honored with a Life Membership Award by the women of the church.
Mrs. Stroberg is survived by her son Roland Hitchcock Stroberg (Kathy) of Gainesville, GA and her daughter, Susan Stroberg Cook (Jim) of Wyoming, Delaware. Her grandchildren: Ann Stroberg Harper (Shane) of Brunswick, GA; Emory Guilford Stroberg (Britney) of Gainesville, GA; Elizabeth Stroberg Zsoka (Tamas) of Port Saint Lucie, FL; Kathryn Ann and Mary Ann Cook both of Baltimore, MD; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Chan Hitchcock (Vera) of Birmingham, AL and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Resting Nest, Holbrook Care/Dogwood Forest Nursing Facility and Homestead Hospice.
