Gregory Cooper Hanes

Gregory Cooper Hanes, age 55, of Chestnut Mountain, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 surrounded by his family at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on March 17, 1958 to the late William Hanes and Mary Cooper Hanes of Chestnut Mountain. He was a member of Chestnut Mountain Baptist Church and a graduate of Johnson High School and Lanier Technical College. Greg worked at Jackson EMC for 23 years and was presently employed at Chestnut Mountain Egg.


Greg is survived by his wife of 30 years, Angie Howell Hanes and three daughters, Meagan (Julio) Valencia, Callie Hanes and Abby Hanes; granddaughter, Carolena Brooke V alencia, mother, Mary Hanes; sister, Beth DeLaPerriere and her children, Jennifer (Mark) Poole, Nicole (Benjie) Wood, Herman (Taylor) DeLaPerriere and William DeLaPerriere; uncle, Fred Cooper; aunt, Sylvia Cooper; mother-in-law, Corky Howell; sisters-in-law, Richie (Jeff) Henke and Kim Lovern as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.


There will be a Celebration of Life for Greg on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the barn of Tom Oliver, which is located at 5500 Oliver Road. Visitation will be from 12:30 - 2:00 pm, with a short service to follow at 2:00 pm. Pastor John Batusic will officiate. The service will be followed by some of Greg's favorites - a cook out and skeet shooting.


Greg had requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 795 Gatewood Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30329 or the charity of your choice.
