Frampton Mikell Harper

Obituary Date: Monday, June 8, 2009
Frampton Mikell Harper (11-7-1939) died peacefully on Saturday June 6 after a long battle with renal cell cancer. His wife, Sharon, was with him.

Mikell is survived by: Sharon Parker Harper and her sons, Jack Read of Greenville, SC, Dennison Read of Birmingham, AL and Chris Read of Beaufort SC. Madeline McNair Harper and their children and grandchildren: Fran Hill of Atlanta and her children Graham and Madeline, Frampton Harper of Beaufort, SC and his sons, Lawton and Luke, and Carl Harper of Beaufort, SC and his children, Henry and Kate. Jane Harper Thompson, his sister, of Charleston, SC.

Education: Williston-Elko High School, Williston, SC where he was senior class president The Citadel, class of 1961, University of South Carolina School of Law.

Military: Vietnam in the US Army for which he received The Bronze Star.

Mikell practiced law with his father, Frampton Lawton Harper, and his son, Frampton Lawton Harper II in Williston and, then Beaufort SC for over 40 years.

He retired to Rabun Gap in 2001 where he convalesced from cancer surgery, coached basketball, and taught college criminal justice. He is the author of 2 books that originated in his fascination with the Harper genealogy in Northern Ireland and the Augusta Georgia area. He put together a volume for family members entitled â
