Dr. Charles Lyman Hagood entered into eternal rest on July 24, 2024. Charles was born in Athens, GA on May 2, 1937 to Dr. Delma L. Hagood and Mrs. Edna Mae Hagood. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Hagood; his daughters, Kimberly (Richard) Myers, Cristy (Robert) Hansen, and Heather Albritton; and his grandchildren Anna (Wyatt) Loucks, Sophie Myers, Megan Hagood, Taylor (Marcus) Maloney, and Rece Moore. He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Delma L. and Edna Mae Hagood, his son Charles Jefferson Hagood; and his grandson Cole Hagood.
Dr. Hagood graduated from Darlington High School and attended Emory University receiving his PhD in Sacred Theology. He served 20 years in the North Georgia Conference as Senior Minister of the following churches: Flippin UMC, Cumming UMC, Druid Hills UMC, and Embry Hills UMC where he was also the founding Minister of the Lake Lanier Chapel UMC. He went on to serve at Lagrange UMC and was later appointed President of Lagrange College.
After his retirement from the North Georgia Conference, Dr. Hagood explored many different opportunities. This included retiring from Dekalb County, serving as Senior Minister at Sardis UMC, and beginning a Bible Study at the Trophy Club of Apalachee.
Dr. Hagood served as a board member of the FCA and the Georgia Rotary, had the honor of being elected to Who’s Who of America, was a member of the ATO fraternity and the Gridiron Society of University of Georgia.
Charles was a cherished member of his community as well as a beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral Services will be on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church (1450 Pine Road Dacula, GA 30019) with Dr. Wendy Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery located in Buford, GA. The family will receive friends at Flanigan Funeral Home on Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. util 8:00 p.m. A reception will be held immediately following the interment in the Charles Hagood Building.
