Vaughn Cyril Woodring

Vaughn Cyril Woodring, 99, of Gainesville, went home to Jesus and other loved ones on February 21, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Margaret, his son Kenneth, his mother, father, sisters, brothers and many other relatives and friends.

He is survived by his brother Mr. Evan Woodring and wife, Mrs. Grace Woodring; sister-in-law, Mildred Winters; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Woodring was born on December 14, 1924 in Blairsville, GA. He joined the Navy in 1941 at 17 years old to fight for our freedoms in WWII. He was assigned to LST 246 serving as a gunner’s mate. His ship was awarded 6 battle stars for combat in the Asian Pacific Rim. He was also recognized and honored by several groups for his military service including the Honor Flight Program at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. He was retired from National Life Insurance Company and worked for many years at McEver Elementary School where he was loved by so many. He loved to hunt, fish and play golf with his many friends.

The family would like to thank his many friends, Cedarhurt Assisted Living and the North Georgia Medical Center and Hospice for all their love, care and support.

A graveside service will be held Sunday February 25th at 2PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home Cemetery.
