Gail Elise Higgins Bennett

Gail Elise Higgins Bennett, 87, of Buford, GA passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ottis Dean Bennett; her parents, James Choice and Newell Roebuck Higgins; her son, Michael Anthony Bennett; and her sisters, Sue Higgins Corbin (Randall) and Barbara Celeste Higgins.  
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her son, Willian Steven Bennett; her daughter, Patricia Ann Bennett; her daughter-in-law, Stacey Ford Bennett; her grandchildren, James Matthew Bennett, Elijah Lee Bennett and Edie (Zack) Wickle; her great grandchildren, Claira-Bella Skyye Bennett and Judah Stuart Bennett; her niece, Cynthia Kaye Corbin; her sister-in-law, Bonnis Margaret Bennett; and several great and great great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bennett was born November 21, 1936 and was a lifelong resident of Gwinnett and Hall Counties. She was a graduate of Sugar Hill School. She is a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, Buford. She is a born-again Christian and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She sought to honor Him with her life. She loved reading and studying the Scriptures, as well as devotion books.
Mrs. Bennett was multi-talented. Her last employment was that of caregiver to numerous individuals. She worked as a seamstress at Warren and Featherbone and Chadburn Gotham Hosiery Mill, a salesperson/interior designer at R & S Floor Fashions and Designs, and a substitute teacher at Buford City Schools. Her greatest role in life was that of wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She loved her family and prayed for them daily. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She was an avid gardener who, along with her husband, grew and canned/froze most of their vegetables and many fruits until the last two years. She loved growing flowers both inside and outside. Her specialties have been African violets and Christmas cacti. She regularly enjoyed called and checking on friends and family.  She loved to research and document family history and collect family photos. She was a master seamstress and made most of her clothes over the years and her daughter’s school clothes in the sixties. She still had several sewing projects in the works. She is known for her generosity in helping those in need. She took care of everyone and was lovingly called ‘Dr. Bennett.’
Elise Bennett was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. 
Funeral Services are scheduled for Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford, GA with Rev. Danny Newbern and Rev. Billy Emmett officiating. Steve Bennett and James Bennett will make remarks. Music will be provided by the Silvertones Choir, Samuel Bota and Suzanne Stepanskyi.  The family will receive friends at Flanigan Funeral Home on Sunday, July 2 from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA.
