Leigh Ann Cox passed away at the age of 56 in Cumming, GA on June 9, 2021, after a brief illness. Born on November 16, 1964, Leigh was one of three daughters of Donald and Esther Cox who raised her in Beaver Falls, PA. Leigh graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1983, migrated to W&J College in Washington, PA. transferred to Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA and graduated with honors in 1987.
Leigh loved to travel and explore so, upon graduating from Geneva College, she began her career trek in Virginia Beach, VA., then moved to Fort Myers, Fl. for several years before relocating to Atlanta, GA where she has worked for the last fourteen years at Piedmont Hospital as the Director Of Business Operations for Transplant Services.
Leigh had a great penchant for quickly making friends with her captivating smile and boisterous gregarity. Leigh was devoted to her family in Beaver Falls and Pittsburgh, from where she always remembered her roots, and to her large family and friends in Atlanta especially her friends and co-workers from Piedmont Hospital community. Leigh’s love of life and kindness touched the lives of many in her work and social circles. Leigh’s family will be forever grateful for the love and support her Atlanta family and friends showed and provided.
Leigh loved sports and certainly sports entertainment, attendance and viewership were high on her list of daily activities. While she had grown to love the Atlanta area and even rooted for the Falcons, her sports heart remained in Pittsburgh as a avid and loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Leigh, however, most enjoyed watching her family perform whether that was MacKenzie and her vast accomplishments in softball, her nephew Nick, as he helped his Blackhawk High School baseball team to a WPIAL Championship or her niece Madison, as she played basketball for the University of Notre Dame. When pursuing things not sports related, Leigh certainly doted over her nieces, Jourdan and Kassie and her nephew Trae and more recently through the brilliance of Facetime, her great nephew, Ignatius and great niece, Emilie. Leigh showed her staunchest love and devotion to her mother Esther, loving sisters, Suzie and Robin, and her best of best friends ever, Rachel Yarbrough.
Leigh is proceeded in death by her father, Donald Cox, who she joined in eternal peace on his birthday. Leigh is survived by her mother, Esther Cox of Beaver Falls, PA., sisters Suzie Cable (Dale), of Mt. Lebanon, PA., Robin House (Tom) of Beaver Falls, PA. as well as her beloved nieces, Kassie Mielecki (Chris) of Mt. Lebanon, PA., Jourdan Koutsavlis (Chris) of Pittsburgh, PA., Madison Cable of Mt. Lebanon, PA., nephews, Nick Ceriani of Akron, Ohio and Trae House of Beaver Falls, PA. Leigh is also survived by her best and most dedicated friend, Rachel Yarbrough, and her daughter, MacKenzie Yarbrough both of Cumming, GA.
Leigh’s family is grateful for the generosity of her friends and colleagues at Piedmont Hospital which held a memorial service on June 10, 2021. Leigh enjoyed a life measured in memories, and, although she will be missed with heavy hearts, Leigh should be remembered as a happy, full of life daughter, sister, sister-n-law, aunt, and best friend.
