Florence Ruth Troglin Wingo

Obituary Date: Tuesday, September 15, 2020

Mrs. Florence Ruth Troglin Wingo, age 96, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away peacefully on September 15, 2020 following complications from dementia.

Florence was born on October 20, 1923 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late William and Jane Cain Troglin. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Wesley Thomas (Rip) Wingo; daughter Peggy Sawyer; grandson Chris Wingo; brothers Luther, Arthur, John, Ed, Fred, Herman, Bill, J.D., and Louie; and sisters Ella, Velva, Dollie, Pearl, and Lillian.

Florence moved from Atlanta in 1964 to Lawrenceville, Georgia to continue raising her children and to pursue her dream of nursing at Button Gwinnett Hospital. She retired in 1987 from Gwinnett Medical Center after moving to Dahlonega in 1976.

Dahlonega was the happy retirement home for Florence and Rip. They enjoyed their gardening and had over two acres of blueberries and enough vegetables to feed the county. They also had two well stocked lakes that kept the grandchildren busy fishing. They loved their new church home and church family. They always enjoyed visiting with the shut-ins and took them delicious homemade cakes and spreads cooked to perfection with love. They also took them vegetables out of their very own garden.

Florence is survived by her daughter LuRee Hughes; husband Ronnie of Monroe, GA; son Joe Wingo and his wife Linda, of Good Hope, GA; son COL(R) Paul Wingo and his wife Vickie of Dahlonega, GA; daughter Pam Jackson and her husband Terry, of Grayson, GA; grandchildren Susan Tapp, Jennifer Moore, Chip Sawyer, Jimmy Hughes, Wes Wingo, Andy Wingo, Callie Wiley, Christina Anderson, Brittany Jackson and Melanie Jackson; and eleven beautiful great-grandchildren Macy Tapp, Pierce Tapp, Dillon Moore, Avery Moore, Spencer Sawyer, Peyton Sawyer, Andrew Wingo, Maddie Wingo, Sam Wiley, Ruby Wiley, and Audrey Anderson.

Mrs. Wingo will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the North Lake Baptist Church Building Fund, 4823 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30506.
